‘THE CONSTANTINE DYNASTY’ The 1st Christian Emperor Turned the Roman Empire into Christianity in 312 A.D. OBVERSE: ROMAN EMPEROR REVERSE: ASSORTMENT METAL: BRONZE SIZE: ‘RANGE’ Comes in Large Album with story of the coins and Emperors and a "Certificate of Authenticity" You are buying 1 coin in Large AlbumPhoto's an example of the coin you will receive The First Roman Emperors to embrace Christianity were Flavius Valerius Constantinus—Constantine I, (the Great) and his sons Constantine II, Constans I and Constantius II: the Constantine Dynasty. Constantine I was taught tolerance of Christians as a child. As an adult he refused to participate in the persecution of Christians. In 312 A.D., the young Constantine I was a powerful general. It was reported that on a spring day of that year he beheld the vision of a flaming cross in the sky at noon. He claimed to have received Divine instructions to engage his legions in a holy battle to take control of the entire Roman Empire, and proclaim Christianity as the true religion. With his newly found inspiration and his powerful army he succeeded in this effort. For centuries, Roman legions had been systematically persecuting and murdering the Christians. In the years following his rise to power, Constantine and his sons turned around an entire empire, and subsequently much of the modern world to embrace Christianity. Among the many other reforms that Constantine I has been credited with, he is most famous for establishing the Papacy, the Byzantine Empire and its capital city Constantinople (Istanbul). This coin is an authentic ancient Roman bronze coin minted in the fourth century A.D. during the reign of the Constantine dynasty. It is a genuine antiquity. Historians know only very little about the coinage of this period due to the chaos of the era. It is known that bronze coins eventually replaced silver coins as the most commonly used money after a long gradual reduction of the silver content of coins. The size, weight and the names of bronze coins also changed over time. Many emperors instituted monetary reforms in an effort to stem the confusion, but typically contributed to the problems. There were at least 15 different denominations minted since the early days of the Roman Republic.
