Matthew broderick and cast signed sylvia playbill
A new revival of “Sylvia,” A. R. Gurney’s dark drama/comedy stars Matthew Broderick who plays Greg, and Annaleigh Ashford as the title character-Sylvia, a pert little mutt who becomes the object of his obsessive devotion. Greg’s wife, Kate, played by Julie White, who begins to fear for his sanity when he comes home from Central Park one day with a stray and as the days go by proceeds to shower more affection on the dog than he does on Kate. She implores him to see a therapist, and eventually he accedes to her request. The much-maddened therapist’s ultimate advice to Kate: Get a divorce, then shoot the dog. (Fear not, dog devotees: This does not come to pass.) The most robust humor in the play derives from watching Ms. Ashford bound around the stage causing trouble of various kinds and acting in true doglike fashion. She exasperates Kate by making puddles where she shouldn’t. She learns a few cute tricks from Greg, although she finds the traditional rolling-over bit a bit beneath her. She acts most indecorously when Kate brings a high-toned friend, Phyllis (Robert Sella, in a drag turn), home for a drink, snuffling at her crotch. This playbill was signed by the cast-Matthew Broderick, Julie White, Annaleigh Ashford and Robert Sella. The play started previews on October 2, 2015 and is staged at the Cort Theater. A great piece of Broadway history.
