Footballers caricatures by rip cigarette cards 1926 full 50 set antique player
My British father-in-law was a passionate antique dealer in the UK , many strange & interesting things have passed through his hands, creating a wonderful legacy for our family...from his estate... This item is an original and complete set of 50 numbered antique cigarette cards. The set is titled ''Footballers, Caricatures By RIP”, and was issued by John Player & Sons in 1926. RIP was the alias for the well known sports artist of that era, R.P.Hill. The title is Footballers...interestingly they contain both English football (soccer), and English “rugby football” players, as rugby was called back in 1926. The cards front illustration show case many of the best players from both sports, the artwork, done in wonderful action-caricature style by R.P. Hill. These 94 year old cards are mostly in very good to excellent shape, nice clean fronts & backs, with nice sharp corners. There are a couple of “tired” cards, #6 has crease, #7 has corner crease, #8 crease, #26 a little tired, #35 crease, #38 wee bit tired, #44 a little rough, #49 and 50, little tired. The other 41 cards are excellent except for the odd random age spot or slightly stubbed corner. My photos show every card, so please use the zoom to examine all the fronts, backs, & corners. If questions please message me. I will within 24 hours. I will also combine shipping for savings with other items from my shop, luckinthebox.
