1964 tokyo olympics silver 1000 yen coin

Sold Want to Buy This?

Japan issued two silver yen coins - 100 yen & 1000 yen - to celebrate the summer Olympic games in Tokyo in 1964. This is the larger of the two coins - 35 mm in diameter - a bit smaller than a U.S. silver commemorative dollar. It weighs 20 grams - .925 sterling silver. The obverse/front design is the legendary Mount Fujiyama - surrounded by cherry blossoms - with ‘Japan 1000 yen’ in Japanese character script. The back/reverse has the coin denomination (1000) above the Olympic rings inside a wreath of cherry blossoms & two inscriptions - ‘Tokyo 1964' at the top & ‘Year 39 of the reign of Showa (Emperor Hirohito)’ in Japanese character script at the bottom. In good/very good condition - some tarnish marks evident on both sides - see photos. Shipped in soft plastic coin flip. Will combine shipping for multiple purchases
