Back then, coins and medallions were used to allow patrons who were unable to attend the games to have a piece of the Olympics history. Now these coins are highly sought after by collectors and allow artists to create tangible collectible masterpieces in various metals. The renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dali has created coins for various other events along with these commemorative medallions for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. ABOUT THE ARTIST:Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí (11 May 1904 – 23 January 1989)Dalí was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters. His best-known work, "The Persistence of Memory" was completed in August 1931. Dalí's expansive artistic repertoire included film, sculpture, and photography, at times in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media.Dalí attributed his "love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes" to an "Arab lineage", claiming that his ancestors were descendants of the Moors.Dalí was highly imaginative, and also enjoyed indulging in unusual and grandiose behavior. To the dismay of those who held his work in high regard, and to the irritation of his critics, his eccentric manner and attention-grabbing public actions sometimes drew more attention than his artwork. On the morning of 23 January 1989, while his favorite record of Tristan and Isolde played, Dalí died of heart failure at the age of 84. He is buried in the crypt below the stage of his Theatre and Museum in Figueres. The location is across the street from the church of Sant Pere, where he had his baptism, first communion, and funeral— is only 0.45 kilometres (1,500 ft) from the house where he was born._____CHECK MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR OTHER ART WORKS AND COLLECTIBLES. • WILL COMBINE SHIPPING ON PURCHASES.
